Primary Eyecare and Optical of Meridian would like to welcome Dr. Robert "Slater" Smith to our practice. Dr. Smith, a recent graduate of the prestigious Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN, hails from Quitman, MS. He states that he received his solid foundation from his parents. His father Berry Smith, who works at Georgia Pacific, instilled in him a strong work ethic, while JoEtte Smith, his mother, was his Anatomy and Physiology and his chemistry teacher. In addition to Dr. Smith, his parents can also brag on his brother Graham, a lawyer in Texas, and his sister Virginia, a registered dietitian with BCBS in Jackson.
When not examining eyes, Dr. Smith is an avid outdoorsman. He says that when not hunting or playing sports, he is watching sports or spending time with his wife, Arlette. Since meeting at Jones County Junior College, the Smiths have supported each other as they both pursued medical professions. As Dr. Smith commences his career with Primary Eyefare, Mrs. Smith begins her journey as a Family Nurse Practitioner with Rush Pain Treatment Clinic.
When it comes to eye care in particular, Dr. Smith feels strongly that "it is essential for every patient I come into contact with to receive the absolute best comprehensive care as if he or she were a member of my own family." He focuses on building trust and rapped as well as educating the patient fully and honestly so that he and his patients "can work together to strive for optimal ocular and general health."
I choose to join Dr. Duong at Primary Eyecare," Dr. Smith continues, "because I loved the family atmosphere as they interacted with the patients and each other--it felt like joining a family. Primary Eyecare has also built a reputation for being the number one primary eye care provider in the Meridian area with a modern state-of-the-art eye center that focuses on giving their patients the most up-to-date quality of care." He adds that he was also "impressed with Dr. Duong's dedication and motivation to serve and improve the community," which parallels Dr. Smith's own passion to bring the best eye care possible back to his own rural Mississippi home.
