If your vision is otherwise fine, you don't even need a prescription.

Protection From Welding Light

Special, extra-dark eyewear is needed to protect your eyes from this light, which is so bright it will burn your retinas if you look at it without such protection. Welding glasses, goggles, and face masks are all options.

Protection From Flying Objects

Construction workers, fabricators, landscapers, and certain factory workers need to protect their eyes from debris and other objects that fly toward their faces. Use impact-resistant goggles or face masks for the best protection. Make sure they are rated to withstand the amount of impact that may happen on your particular job. Also, be sure your eyewear has side-impact protection if needed.

Prescription Protective Eyewear

You don't have to give up your ability to see clearly in order to wear protective eyewear. Some safety glasses and goggles can accept the prescription you get from your doctor of optometry, and if you wear a face mask, you can often wear your regular glasses behind it.
